What is the procedure and timescale for a divorce?

The procedure for a divorce is stated in the Turkish Civil Code. Regarding this procedure, one of the parties should bring a case against the other party with a specific ground for the divorce. The authorised court is the residential address of one of the parties or the place in which they both lived for the preceding six months. The proceeding will be written and after the stage of petitions is over, the Court will set a trial date to hear the parties who are then able to submit their list of witnesses to be heard before the Court. Then the Court makes the judgment. The timescale for a divorce depends upon the specifics of the situation and, generally, will be at least 12 months.
