How is child maintenance calculated and is it administered by the court or an agency?

Child maintenance is calculated and administered by the Court. Determining child maintenance is regulated by article 330 of the Turkish Civil Code. Pursuant thereto, child maintenance is calculated depending upon the needs of the child, his/her life conditions and the ability to pay of the parents. According to the decisions of the Turkish Court of Cassation, the needs of children are related to their ages, educational status, their health, and the lifestyle to which they are accustomed. Some components of child maintenance are food, housing, clothes, school, medical expenses, etc.
