REGULATION ON THE AMENDMENT OF THE HIGHWAY TRAFFIC REGULATION

The Regulation on the Amendment of the Highway Traffic Regulation has been published in the Official Gazette dated 05/06/2020, numbered 31146.

The Article 88 of the Regulation has been amended as follows:

Article 88 – Without prejudice to the relevant laws and the provisions of the bilateral and multilateral agreements, the procedures and principles regarding the use of vehicles in our country with the driver’s license obtained in foreign countries are stated as follows:

A) Turkish citizens driving vehicles in our country with their driver’s licenses obtained in foreign countries;

1) The vehicles may be driven for a maximum of 2 years from the date of entry into our country with driver licenses obtained in foreign countries. (Increased from 1 year to 2 years)

2) Those who are in our country for more than six months are obliged to have their driver’s licenses’ Turkish translations which are certified by the foreign representatives or notaries public along with their driver’s licenses while driving.

3) In order to be able to drive a vehicle in our country at the end of two years, it is obligatory to replace the driver’s license obtained in foreign countries with the one to be obtained in our country.

B) Foreigners driving vehicles in our country with their driver’s licenses obtained in foreign countries;

1) The vehicles may be used for a maximum of 6 months from the date of entry into our country with driver licenses obtained in foreign countries.

2) In order to be able to drive a vehicle in our country at the end of six months, it is obligatory to replace the driver’s license obtained in foreign countries with the one to be obtained in our country.

Without prejudice to the relevant laws and the provisions of bilateral and multilateral agreements, the procedures and principles regarding the replacement of the driver’s licenses obtained in foreign countries with the ones to be obtained in our country are as follows:

a) The application may be made to any Civil Registry Office.

b) The information and documents that must be submitted during the application shall be determined by the General Directorate of Population and Citizenship Affairs.
