Nowadays, many regulations are made within the scope of the processing and protection of personal data which is getting more and more important day by day and various announcements on many topics are published by Personal Data Protection Institution.
As known; in accordance with the Article 16 of the Personal Data Protection Law, natural persons and legal entities that process personal data are required to register in Data Controllers’ Registry Information System (VERBIS) and to enter the data processed into the mentioned registry categorically. The Institution has stated in their previous announcement that; the data controllers whose number of annual employees are more than 50 or annual turnover is more than 25 million Turkish Liras and the data controllers that are operating abroad should enter this data to the System until the date of 30.06.2020, the data controllers whose number of annual employees are less than 50 and annual turnover is less than 25 million Turkish Liras and their main field of activity is processing special personal data should enter this data to the System until the date of 30.09.2020 and data controllers of the public institutions and organizations should enter this data to the System until the date of 31.12.2020 .
On 23.06.2020, with an announcement made on their website; the Board has announced that processing data could not continue and the responsibility of registering data could not be fulfilled since the data controllers have taken some measures such as closing their workplaces, working from home due to Covid-19 outbreak which shows its effects in our country and upon the requests made, it is decided with the Decision dated 23/06/2020 and numbered 2020/482 of the Personal Data Protection Board, that these periods are extended as follows:
- The data controllers whose number of annual employees are more than 50 or annual turnover is more than 25 million Turkish Liras and the data controllers that are operating abroad should enter this data to the System until the date of 30.09.2020,
- The data controllers whose number of annual employees are less than 50 and annual turnover is less than 25 million Turkish Liras and their main field of activity is processing special personal data should enter this data to the System until the date of 31.03.2021,
- Data controllers of the public institutions and organizations should enter this data to the System until the date of 31.03.2021.
This mentioned Board Decision is also published in the Official Gazette dated 25.06.2020 and numbered 31166.
