Are unmarried parents treated in the same way as married parents when the court makes orders on separation or divorce?

In both situations, one of the parents has the right of custody. Their obligations and rights according the custody are the same. For unmarried parents, if paternity is established between a father and a child, the father will have the same rights and obligations as a divorced father. Both of them should be participating in providing for their child’s needs and have the right to have a personal relationship with the child.
